View From the Bluff

Cook Inlet 26 June 2008

We were up early this morning as Denny had to go back to work. I drove him in to the airport for the seven-thirty flight to Anchorage.

I stopped at the top of the bluff on the way back home and took this photo of Cook Inlet, looking south toward the Gulf of Alaska.

On The Road To Kenai

We drove up to Kenai on a supply run this afternoon. It was the first trip we have made since green-up. The fresh leaves of the birch and alders were vivid against the dark green of the spruce trees.

K Beach Road

Of course, the other sign of Spring in Alaska is road construction and repair.

Construction on K Beach Road

We had a nice wait on K-Beach Road on the way into Kenai.

We took the Spur Highway back...

Signs of Summer

Backyard Tree

When compared to the photos I took on June 8th, the growth of leaves is noticeable as the "green-up" of spring progresses into an Alaskan summer.

Back Deck

The deck furniture looks a little more inviting as the alders leaf out to provide a wind-screen for the area.

Back Deck

I even moved the exercise bike out onto the deck for those lovely summer evenings. I may not go anywhere but I can still enjoy the scenery.

Red Saxifrage

Red Saxifrage

I can't remember when I bought the original plant from the greenhouse but the saxifrage has spawned several daughter-plants over the years. The plants spend the winter outside in their pots but are among the first flowers of the summer.
