Frost on the Pushki

It was 27 degrees this morning.

The mountains across the bay look suspiciously whiter.

On the Way Home After Work

The sunset colors tinting the snow on the peaks across Kachemak Bay. It was so lovely that I pulled the car over to take this photo.

At the top of the bluff, this was the view to the west across the Inlet--the sun dipping to the horizon just north of Mt. Iiamna.

While behind me, all of Kachemak Bay reflected the sunset's colors.

Break-Up

This is the pond of meltwater that has formed during the last two days at the corner of our property. The overnight temperatures have been above freezing and thawing is proceding by leaps and bounds. The culvert under the road at this point collapsed a decade ago and so the water is spilling over the road. In the picture, it covers about half of the road and is draining across into our other lot.

This is what spring look like in Alaska....

Kachemak Bay

It's been raining like it was summer since yesterday, which is making our snow cover rapidly disappear. And just like that, we have gone from late winter to break-up.

I stopped at the top of the bluff and took this picture on my way to work this afternoon.
